Furthering Company-Wide Inclusion through Champion Feedback Surveys

During the Collaborative Way training sessions, everyone in the company will review why inclusion is a key component of forwarding and supporting what we are “Up To” as a company and as a team. What we are “Up To” consists of Champion’s focus as an industry leader and our commitment to the company’s mission and strategic intent.

The practice of inclusion is based on an understanding, that as team members we operate in an interconnected and interdependent environment. Inclusion provides the invaluable opportunity of collaboration. Decisions and actions that are made collectively by inclusion oftentimes have a higher level of creativity and wider likelihood of success as they originate from a variety of views.

Inclusion at the project or local level is fairly feasible, but since Champion is dispersed with several offices in many states, collecting input and practicing company-wide inclusion can present various challenges. It would not be efficient or even possible for all employees to attend every meeting at which decisions are made here at Champion.

In an effort to promote inclusion, Champion added comment and suggestion survey links for each department and office on the SharePoint homepage. Feedback submitted via the surveys are sent to the appropriate department owner(s) and are completely anonymous unless you specifically include your contact information or include other identifying information in the feedback given.

While not all suggestions will be implemented or accomplished immediately, all input will absolutely be reviewed and considered. In addition, we will not typically be publishing feedback, but if the suggestion is reasonably feasible and forwarding for Champion then it will be taken very seriously and acted upon. To date we have not received very many comments or suggestions, but one of them can be directly related to that final push to get this newsletter off the ground, which you may agree was a very impactful suggestion. The main point is that Champion TRULY needs and wants your feedback, so we encourage and invite you all to give constructive feedback with the goal of improving and forwarding our company.

For your reference, below is a list of department owners for the various survey links available on SharePoint (located on the right side of SPS Home page):

Lastly, in addition to the suggestion surveys, we created a form to request new project documents, or updates to existing project documents, and also to request updates or new features to Vision or SharePoint. Unlike the surveys above, this form is not anonymous, since we will need to work directly with the requestor on the requirements. The link is on the SharePoint home page below the surveys:

My IT Helpdesk Portal Ticketing System

My IT has installed a new Helpdesk Portal on everyone’s machines, and you should have a desktop icon like the one shown at right.

As long as you are logged into the desktop with your domain account and have internet access, the portal should log in automatically. If not, close the app until you are logged in and have internet access and then reopen it.

In an effort to make sure that all service tickets are captured properly and so that you and we can monitor ticket progress until completion, please use this portal to enter any service requests.

If for some reason, your ticketing portal does not work or you cannot get to it, then please email gethelp@myitsupport.com or call 504-888-MYIT (6948). After that, please use the portal for all tickets.

The following are some highlights from the My IT instructions guide, which is on SharePoint (search “My IT helpdesk”).

Clicking on the My IT Helpdesk icon will open the application and bring you to a welcome screen similar to the one shown at right.

The “My Profile” tab shows information about your computer. Username, Email Address, Domain, and PC Name associated with the PC are easily available here. It also shows you that you are connected to the internet with a green check in the upper right hand corner. All of this information is automatically put into any new tickets you create through the system.

If you click on the “Request Support” tab (see red arrow at right) under the “My Profile” tab you can create a new service request. You will see several support types such as:

01. Security/Permissions >
02. Email >
03. Internet >
04. Virus/Machine >
05. Remote Access (Citrix, VPN, etc.) >
06. Application >
07. Computer Hardware >
08. Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax >
09. Phone System (desk/cell phone) >
10. Purchase Request >
11. Other (not listed) >

Each option may have additional questions to allow their Helpdesk to better identify your problem and get it to the correct Helpdesk Engineer. There are also options to attach a file or screenshot to the ticket.

Once you submit your ticket, My IT will communicate with you through the email that is listed on the “My Profile” tab. In addition to using email, the “View Tickets” tab will allow you to make adjustments to any open tickets such as upload documents, add notes, close the ticket, or flag it for review. You can also see the Status, the Priority, and Ticket Details including any changes that have been made by the support team. Lastly, you can use the filters to see old tickets as well.

Champion Technical Community Toolbox
(Mar 2015)

As discussed in the previous issue of our newsletter, Champion makes it a priority to maintain a high level of technical excellence. With this goal in mind, the Champion Technical Community released a “PLC Programming Best Practices” document to establish company-wide guidelines for PLC tag naming, commenting, program structure, and basic programming principles. These best practices will not only promote consistency throughout the Champion automation group but will also help quickly familiarize new employees with our PLC programming guidelines. In addition to these general programming guidelines, the Champion Technical Community is considering developing programming guidelines for commonly used platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, and GE.

The Champion Technical Community utilized feedback from their respective offices along with established professional standards (such as ISA standards) to collaborate and create the “Champion PLC Programming Best Practices” document. Please download this document and reference it for future projects, CS-20-PLC-Programming-Best-Practices-0.

As a reminder, please continue to contribute to the Technical Community Toolbox on SharePoint. Contact the appropriate Technical Community representative with any questions or input for the Toolbox.

Employee Spotlights (Mar 2015)

Growing up I listened to, and played, everything from Beethoven to Rush.  I took orchestra in the 7th grade for an easy “A” and shortly found out that I love music.  I had a full scholarship for cello but quit my sophomore year to go on the road playing blues.  After touring for a few years, I quit the road and worked in a recording studio for a while.  I ended up playing keyboards in a rock group that made it to the semi-finals of the 1993-1994 Star Search season.  I gave my life to Christ in 1997 and quit the music scene.  It wasn’t long before I started playing music in different worship teams.  I have a home studio, still write music and enjoy filling in at different churches from time to time on guitar, bass, keyboards or vocals.

Favorite Band, Singer, or Song?

Favorite Band: Journey, Pink Floyd, Heart, Third Day, Jeremy Camp
Favorite Singer: Steve Perry, Ann Wilson
Favorite Song: Songs I’ve written. Simply because they’re personal.

Group, Club, or Organization that you enjoy?

I got introduced to CrossFit a few years ago. After the first baseline test, I thought I was going to die. It really exposed how much I had let myself go. I hated it at first. I couldn’t even run 400 meters without walking most of it. It hasn’t been an easy road, but I feel better now, at 47, than in my 20’s and 30’s. I enjoy the programming and intensity. It’s never dull with the mix of endurance, Olympic/Powerlifting, and Gymnastics/Calisthenics. It has made enough impact on my life that I started my own affiliate and do personal training to help others feel as good as I do. I love doing competitions. It’s the one arena that exposes areas for improvement. I’ve never been a part of an athletic/fitness culture that cheers for fellow competitors like the CrossFit community. I don’t care what fitness regimen you choose. Put everything you have into it to reap the most benefit from it. Aging is inevitable. Growing old is not…

Worst job?

Working sporting goods and the toy department at Service Merchandise during Christmas. After doing that one year, my heart will always go out to the people that have to deal with that lunacy. .

St. Patrick’s Day plans?

Work, coach and hang out with my wife and boys.

March 20th – 1st Day of Spring: Believe It or Not?

Man!  What a rollercoaster winter.  My wife and I are SOOOO ready for spring and summer.  We are “Beach Peeps” and can’t wait to head back to Destin, Florida.

Has the cold weather effected you?

I can take wet. I can take cold. Just not both together. Once my feet get cold, I’m done. I’m very thankful we haven’t had the weather the rest of the country has experienced. Louisiana is not geared for that kind of weather. If someone spills a cup of ice in a parking lot, they close the schools.

Favorite Band, Singer, or Song?

Gavin DeGraw everything he sings.

Group, Club, or Organization that you enjoy?

Silver Mountain sports club, Kevin Rails classes.  Working out at the gym with my husband.

Worst job?

I’ve really loved every job I ever had. If I had to pick one I would say working for an HOA. I hated writing people up for not following the rules.

St. Patrick’s Day plans?

No plans, just hanging out with my family!

March 20th – 1st Day of Spring: Believe It or Not?

No, I can’t believe winter is almost over, but I am looking forward to Spring.

Has the cold weather effected you?

It’s been a very mild winter here in Park City. I wish it would have snowed more.

Favorite Band, Singer, or Song?

CCR!  I love all of their songs!  If I had to choose a favorite it would have to be “Midnight Special.”

Group, Club, or Organization that you enjoy?

I’m a big supporter for Habitat for Humanity.  I’ve personally been able to volunteer and work hands on with this organization and believe that they have an excellent concept.

Worst job?

Working at a Hello Kitty store when I was in high school!  We had to dress up in character costumes for the little kids and play musical chairs.

St. Patrick’s Day plans?

My husband and I might possibly take the kids to a parade.  Otherwise, we will be home!

March 20th – 1st Day of Spring: Believe It or Not?

Yes!  Come on good weather!!!

Has the cold weather effected you?

Louisianans don’t do well with cold weather!  Counting down the days until summer!

Favorite Band, Singer, or Song?

Slipknot.

Group, Club, or Organization that you enjoy?

I’m a member of a few golf and softball clubs/leagues in the summer.

Worst job?

Climbing through 7-story boiler @ 120 degrees looking for leaks in the piping at a power plant.

St. Patrick’s Day plans?

Spending the evening with my daughters, Ava and Anneliese, probably making green milkshakes or smoothies.

March 20th – 1st Day of Spring: Believe It or Not?

Believe it.

Has the cold weather effected you?

It has been mild in Utah this winter, but when it’s cold and snowing I enjoy spending it snowboarding in the mountains.

Favorite Band, Singer, or Song?

Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac.

Group, Club, or Organization that you enjoy?

Community/Recreational- Lafayette Kayak Fishing Club.  Professional- ISA Lafayette.

Worst job?

Sounded like a great idea to do some labor in exchange for a few free hunts. At 19, I worked for a duck/goose hunting guide service in Gueydan, LA. One hot August afternoon we were tasked with pumping out pit-blinds. These are metal tanks sunken in the middle of a levee of a rice field. We had to haul a heavy pump/hose across the rice field to the pit blind since the 4-wheeler broke down + trailer. The blind sits above the levee just enough to attract every fire ant in Vermilion Parish. Then the pump broke so we had to bale with 5 gallon buckets with the ants. Oh and then there were wasp nests and moccasins. Then we had to push the 4 wheeler + trailer and haul the pump back to the truck. I got paid $0 and was treated to 1 bad dove hunt and 3 sub-par duck hunts. I did get several lessons on the duck/goose calling and ate the best gumbo in my life.

St. Patrick’s Day plans?

Run 2-3 miles, work in or outside the office, ISA Lafayette board meeting, dinner at the house with the family, in bed between 9-10 PM.  Roll with whatever happens in between.

March 20th – 1st Day of Spring: Believe It or Not?

I know there are all kinds of astrological, meteorologic and calendar-based reasonings for changing between the 20th and 21st. And I get it, but just pick a date and leave it alone already!

Has the cold weather effected you?

I try to not let the weather affect my mood and spirits.  Both feet are upright and I am writing this.  Also fish still eat in the cold so I still get out there and enjoy the outdoors as much as I can.  If it’s below 30 and blowing over 10 mph then it really affects my decision to go for a run outside.

Pot of Gold – Irish Potato Soup Recipe

Irish Potato Soup ♣ in Bread Bowl

“The flavor of smoky bacon is cooked throughout this creamy soup.”  Served in a crusty bread bowl that can be torn apart and eaten afterwards.

8 servings   |   Total Time: 35 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 (1 pound) package bacon
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 6 potatoes, scrubbed and cubed
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 (12 fluid ounce) cans evaporated milk
  • 8 Bread Bowl (optional)*

  1. Place the bacon in a large, deep skillet, and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain the bacon slices on a paper towel-lined plate, crumble, and set aside.
  2. Cook and stir onion and celery in the remaining bacon grease over medium heat until the onion is translucent and tender. Drain excess grease, then stir in potatoes. Add water (or Chicken Broth) to cover all but 1 inch of the potatoes. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low, and simmer until potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes, stirring often. Stir in the evaporated milk, and continue cooking until warmed through. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in bacon just before serving.

*BREAD BOWL:

  1. It’s easy to do using those large kaiser buns you find in most bakeries – slice off the top and scoop out the innards and you have yourself an edible bowl. Use a Shamrock cookie cutter for top cut-out.
